My Nurses
Before I forget and allow too much time to pass by, I really wanted to give a shout-out to all the nurses out there. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate what my doctors and other support staff have done and continue to do, but it really was the nurses who carried me through the day to day reality of moving in spite of pain and getting out of bed even if it's painful. My nurses at the SICU were all professional and caring and some more compassionate than others. They gave me encouragement and allowed me to hit that morphine pump everytime they were gonna do something that may hurt. They talked to the doctors about adjusting my pain meds, they helped me brushed my hair and my teeth and made me feel semi-human again. Of course, when Ats came and I had my own personal nurse, things just progressed so much faster from that moment on. We have nurses in our family, our circle of friends, our community. I have been honored to work with nurses my entire professional career as a therapist, and I just wanted to let them all know how much I appreciate their care and compassion and even though it's still 2 months before Nurses Month (it's in April, everyone!!), I want to encourage everyone to hug a nurse today. They just make our world, sick or well, a better place to be. Thank you, my nurses :-)
